India and Pakistan have struck a deal to play a limited-overs series in Sri Lanka beginning next month.
The heads of the two countries' cricket authorities met in Dubai at the weekend, and the Pakistan government has now given its backing to the proposed schedule.
Full details will be announced once the Indian government follows suit, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
A statement read: "PCB has received a decision by the government of Pakistan, accepting the resumption of Pakistan-India cricket series in December 2015 - January 2016, with matches in Sri Lanka."
The agreement comes after the collapse of a proposed Test series in Pakistan's adopted home in the United Arab Emirates which was scheduled to be the first since the 2008 terrorist attacks on Mumbai.
The PCB and their Board of Cricket Control for India counterparts last year signed a memorandum of understanding to play six series between 2015 and 2023, subject to government approval.
But PCB chairman Shahryar Khan last month told Sky Sports he had failed to reach a deal on the UAE series and said security concerns could lead to Pakistan's withdrawal from next year's World Twenty20 in India.
