Bangladesh's chances of salvaging a draw in their Test series against New Zealand were dealt a blow as day three of the second Test in Christchurch was washed out.

Rain prevented any play at the Hagley Oval, where the hosts were scheduled to resume on 260-9, 29 runs behind the Tigers' first-innings total, after Shakib Al Hasan had given his side a boost after taking three Black Cap wickets late on the second day.

The hosts won the first Test by seven wickets and need only to avoid defeat to clinch the series.
