Malahide witnessed a moment of history on Saturday as Boyd Rankin took Ireland's first wicket in Test cricket, dismissing Azhar Ali.
After day one was washed out, Ireland won the toss and opted to bowl on day two against Pakistan and they started brightly.
However, while Rankin and Tim Murtagh had troubled the Pakistan openers and runs had been hard to come by, after half an hour Ireland were still waiting for the breakthrough.
It came from the last ball of the eighth over as Rankin squared up Azhar with a delivery that got up a touch and moved away slightly off the pitch, the ball took the edge and carried to captain William Porterfield at first slip, who pouched the catch.
Ireland's historic first Test wicket was actually Rankin's second in Tests though, his first came in his solitary England Test appearance against Australia in Sydney, during the 2013/14 Ashes.
Having taken their first, Ireland added a second wicket moments later as Murtagh trapped Imam-ul-Haq lbw with the first ball of the next over to leave Pakistan 13-2.
