South Africa spinner Imran Tahir is set to return to Hampshire for the final two games of the County season, in mid-September.
The former Pakistani leg-spinner played for Hants between 2008 and 2011, and is set to be the overseas signing after fellow Proteas player Kyle Abbott's departure recently.
Director of cricket Giles White said: "We're in talks with Immy, there are couple of things to sort out including his visa, but he's very fond of the club and is keen to come back.
"He's a match winner, especially at this time of year."
Tahir first has to play a tri-series in Zimbabwe, against the hosts and Australia, before he can make his way to Southampton for the games against Kent and Glamorgan.
His return for the last two games would be a big boost to Hampshire’s hopes of winning promotion to the top flight - they currently sit second in Division Two.
