Pakistan have appointed Mickey Arthur as their new head coach.

The 47-year-old will replace Waqar Younis who resigned as Pakistan coach after their disastrous World Twenty20 campaign last month.

A Pakistan Cricket Board statement read: "It is expected that Mickey Arthur will be able to join the PCB toward the end of this month. He has confirmed his acceptance of the post of head coach of the Pakistan national cricket team."

Arthur, who took charge of Karachi Kings in the inaugural Pakistan Super League, enjoyed a hugely successful spell as South Africa head coach between 2005-2010, helping turn the Proteas into the world's best team across all formats of the game.

Arthur, who turns 48 later this month, also had a two-year spell as Australia head coach before being replaced by Darren Lehmann.

His appointment comes less than a week after former England head coach Peter Moores revealed he had turned down an approach from the Pakistan Cricket Board to take charge of the national team.
