Stuart Broad will not play any more cricket before the Ashes start in Australia in November, Sky Sports News understands.
The England seamer complained of pain in his heel while bowling in the final summer Test match against West Indies at Lord's.
Sky Sports News has been told he had a precautionary scan on the heel on Tuesday night and the results showed no serious damage.
But England's medical team have now imposed complete rest from competitive cricket on the 31-year-old as they manage the injury.
It means Broad will play no part in England's upcoming ODI series against the West Indies, and he will miss the rest of Nottinghamshire's County Championship season as they chase the Second Division title.
But England staff are confident he will be fit to play in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on November 23. Joe Root's side play their first warm-up game down under on November 4.
Broad has been troubled by his heel injury for much of the summer and was forced to leave the field during Nottinghamshire's County Championship match against Leicestershire in June after bowling just one over.
