Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has been ruled out of the final two Tests of the series against India due to a back injury.
Gul missed the first Test defeat in Delhi due to the problem and has now been sent home to recuperate after failing to recover in time for the second Test in Kolkata, which starts on Friday.
"Gul is going back," Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik said on Thursday.
"He bowled all out yesterday at practice, but felt pain today, so he is being sent back."
All-rounder Yasir Arafat has been called-up as a replacement to provide depth to the injury-ravaged squad.
Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Sami both missed net practice for the second day in a row on Thursday due to chest infections, while Malik himself faces a fitness test on an ankle problem.
"I walked and jogged but felt pain," said Malik. "I'll take a fitness test tomorrow (Friday) and decide."
Opening batsman Salman Butt has 'flu and batsman Misbah-ul-Haq is recovering from a viral infection, although both are expected to play in Kolkata.
