West Indies all-rounder joins Sussex for Twenty20 campaign
Sussex have signed West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith for their Twenty20 Cup campaign following an injury to influential leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed.
Star Pakistani spinner Mushtaq has been ruled out for the entire Twenty20 group programme after tearing a knee ligament in training.
Mushtaq underwent surgery on the same knee earlier in the season but the injury is not related, and he is expected to return when the LV County Championship resumes in July.
High quality
Sussex professional cricket manager Mark Robinson said: "Obviously we are excited to have Dwain join us.
"We've had to move quickly on this following injury to Mushy and at a day's notice I feel very lucky to have gained such a high quality player."
Smith has played 10 Tests and 71 one-day internationals for the West Indies, and arrives at Hove following a stint in the Indian Premier League with Mumbai Indians.
Sussex face Kent in their Twenty20 Cup opener at Canterbury on Wednesday live on Sky Sports 1 from 5.30pm.
