Wicketkeeper Pipe faces lengthy spell out with damaged digit
Derbyshire will attempt to sign a wicketkeeper on load after it was confirmed that regular gloveman Jamie Pipe has suffered a broken finger.
Pipe damaged the index finger on his left hand when trying to catch Lance Klusener on the opening day of the LV County Championship match against Northamptonshire.
Although he played on after treatment, X-rays subsequently revealed a compound fracture, meaning a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
It is the second time this season that Pipe has damaged the finger - he broke it playing against Warwickshire in early May and missed a month.
Derbyshire have a promising wicketkeeper in 18-year-old Tom Poynton, who will take over from Pipe for the rest of the current game, but with the county still in contention in Division Two of the LV County Championship and the Pro40, they are likely to want more experienced cover.
