Scans reveal no serious damage to New Zealand all-rounder's back
Jacob Oram has been cleared of a serious back injury after being examined by doctors in Christchurch.
The New Zealand all-rounder returned home early from the tour of Bangladesh after experiencing pain in his lower back.
The 30-year-old, who has a history of back problems, feared he may be facing a long lay-off, but scans showed no serious damage.
"It is reassuring to know that it is only a soft tissue injury," Oram said in a statement.
"I have had some major lower back problems over my career and while you are always hopeful that the latest problem is not a pointer to something more serious, you can never be certain."
Oram can start his rehabilitation work in the gym straightaway, but is unsure when he will be able to resume bowling.
"I will be reassessed in a week's time by the medical staff and we should be able to get a better indicator then of when I am likely to get back to the bowling crease," he added.
Oram will be hoping to make a speedy recovery in order to participate in New Zealand's tour of Australia in November.
