Black Caps all-rounder needs surgery to rectify thumb problem
New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris will be out for six weeks after suffering a broken thumb during the Twenty20 match with the West Indies on Boxing Day.
The Black Caps will be without Styris for six weeks as he needs an operation to have a pin inserted in his thumb.
Styris will go under the knife on Saturday and the 33-year-old will not be able to take the field again until mid February at the earliest.
Styris broke his thumb while batting during Friday's thrilling Tweny20 defeat by the West Indies in Auckland.
As yet no replacement has been named by the hosts for the second Twenty20 game, which will take place in Hamilton on Sunday.
Styris retired from test cricket back in February but is still a valued member of the one-day side, but selectors will have to have a re-think as they prepare to name the one-day squad on Sunday.
