India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is hopeful Yuvraj Singh will take his limited-overs form into the Test arena during the tour of New Zealand.
Yuvraj, 27, is an established member of India's one-day team and won the man-of-the-series award during the recent 4-1 win in Sri Lanka.
But the left-hander has largely failed flourish in the Tests and only recently earned a recall in the five-day format following Sourav Ganguly's retirement.
"He deserves a place in the Test side," said Dhoni. "The good thing with him is that if he settles in he puts in a lot of pressure on the opposition.
"His bowling is a plus point and he is a brilliant fielder too."
India's visit to New Zealand starts at the end of February and includes two Twenty20 internationals, five one-dayers and three Tests.
"Sourav Ganguly's retirement gives him a good opportunity," Dhoni added. "Hopefully, he can cash in on it.
"A batsman like him who can come in at number five or six and who can support VVS Laxman will be a big help."
Yuvraj had proved susceptible to spin in the past but believes he has now overcome that problem.
"I spent a lot of time in the nets figuring out how to tackle the spinners," Yuvraj said.
"I haven't changed too many things in my game.
"The more you play, the more you learn, so I just backed myself and played to my strengths."
