Former coach believes assault on a sports team was always likely
Former Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody has claimed that the attack on his former side in Lahore was "inevitable".
Moody coached Sri Lanka between 2005 and 2007 and was left shock to hear several members of the squad, including assistant coach Paul Farbrace, were injured after gunman attacked the convoy taking them to the Gaddafi Stadium for the third day of the second Test.
Six police officers and two civilians were also killed in the attacks which have shocked the world.
However, Moody believes that the problems in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka - as well as the recent attacks in India - meant that an assault on a sporting team was always likely.
"It's quite eerie," said Moody.
"It was nearly inevitable given the turmoil that we've seen - not only in Pakistan but the issues in Sri Lanka as well with the ongoing conflict there - that a sporting team was (going to be) in the firing line so to speak at some stage.
"It just highlights again no one's safe, whether it's a sporting organisation or just a member of the public going on holidays.
"It doesn't matter where it is, it's the world we're living in."
Moody believes that there is now "no chance" of any cricket taking place in Pakistan in the near future.
"It's thrown a very dark cloud over Pakistan cricket and I just feel very sorry for the Pakistan cricketers that boast a huge amount of talent and can offer the international game so much," he said.
"But unfortunately their country's in a position where it's not safe."
