Worcestershire are looking to tie England one-day wicket-keeper Steven Davies down to a new long-term deal at New Road.
The 22-year-old, who made his full England debut in a Twenty20 international against the West Indies in March, is in the final year of his current deal.
Davies, a product of the county's academy system, passed up the opportunity to sign a new contract with the Royals last summer in a similar scenario to England Lions opener Stephen Moore.
Moore allowed his contract to run out and was courted by 11 counties before finally signing a new deal and Worcestershire chief executive Mark Newton does not want to see a repeat performance.

"Steven is in the final year of his contract. We want him to stay and we are happy to hold contract talks any time this summer," Newton said.
"When that will be, we have no idea. We would hope we will sit down soon with Steven and his agent but it is his decision.
"It is a similar situation to last season with Stephen Moore. The ball is in Steven's court. We should like him to stay on a three-year contract at least.
"We said to Steven last summer that we would like to extend his contract but he said he wanted to run it down until the end of this summer.
"Technically he is free to move on at the end of the season as things stand."
Paceman Simon Jones, one of England's 2005 Ashes heroes, is also out of contract at the end of the campaign.
But he is currently recovering from knee surgery and his situation will be reviewed in July - which is the normal mid-season procedure for players at Worcestershire.
