Warwickshire batsman Jonathan Trott is the surprise inclusion in England's squad for the fourth Ashes Test, starting at Headingley on Friday.
Nottinghamshire seamer Ryan Sidebottom is also recalled in a 14-man party, but there is no place for Northants spinner Monty Panesar.
The remainder of the squad is made up of Durham paceman Steve Harmison and the XI on duty during the drawn third Test at Edgbaston.
Harmison has been named despite suffering blistered feet during Durham's championship win over Sussex at Chester-le-Street, but the biggest fitness concern again surrounds all-rounder Andrew Flintoff.
Flintoff has needed injections to get through the last two matches in his final series before retiring from Test cricket. His availability is expected to be the deciding factor in whether England strengthen their batting line-up by adding Trott.
The 28-year-old South African-born batsman struggled in his only previous international experience, scoring just 11 runs in two Twenty20 internationals against West Indies at the Oval two years ago, but impressed during the Academy's tour of New Zealand last winter.
Trott has been in excellent form for Warwickshire in the championship this season, scoring 798 runs at an average of 99.75 - including three centuries.
England hold a 1-0 lead in the five-match series and can regain the Ashes with victory at Headingley. The squad will assemble in Leeds on Wednesday.
England squad: A Strauss (capt), J Anderson, I Bell, R Bopara, S Broad, P Collingwood, A Cook, A Flintoff, S Harmison, G Onions, M Prior (wkt), R Sidebottom, G Swann, J Trott
