Count down starts to ban expiry

West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels is targeting a return to the national team once his two-year suspension for links to an Indian gambler is completed. Samuels was found guilty of discussing team information with bookmaker Mukesh Kochar prior to Windies' ODI against India on January 21, 2008 in Nagpur, despite protesting his innocence. The 28-year-old was also charged with a $1,218 hotel bill paid by Kocher, with Samuels deeming the amount was a loan due to his own credit card being declined and nothing to do with gambling. The batsman ban expires on May 9 next year, and hopes to add to his 29 Test and 107 ODI appearances.

Return

He told Cricinfo: "My intention is to return to the West Indies team. I have trained very hard and been very disciplined while I have been out of the game. The two years will be over soon. "I want to bat number four for West Indies. I am very much looking forward to batting again with guys like Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan. "I think I could have a positive impact."
