Pakistan captain will not tolerate more controversy

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has told his players he is looking to introduce a "new culture" of discipline to the side. Afridi's team has been mired in controversy over recent months, with suspensions of senior players followed by the subsequent overturning of some of those bans making the headlines. The bans were a result of Pakistan's dismal tour of Australia which a resulting inquiry revealed was blighted by rifts in the squad. But Afridi is hoping for a fresh start ahead of the Asia Cup, and has let senior players Shoaib Akhtar and Shoaib Malik know what is expected of them.

New rules

"In the training camp, I spoke to Shoaib and also Malik and explained to them the new set of rules that we expect them to follow in the team," the big-hitting batsman said. "I explained to them that being senior players, I required their support to introduce a new culture in the team." Afridi said that indiscipline will not be tolerated by the Pakistan set-up regardless of the player in question. He added: "The board has also made it clear that the captain and manager have full authority to take action against any player they feel is getting out of line. "We have enormous talent and we have some exciting new players coming up. I am confident that if we play as a unit we can beat any team in the world."
