Chris Tremlett admitted to a few pre-match nerves before the third Test in Perth but grew in confidence to take three wickets on the first day.
The Surrey seamer was selected to play his first Test match in three years as a replacement for the injured Stuart Broad.
And Tremlett repaid the selectors by clean bowling Phil Hughes in his first over before going on to claim figures of 3-63 as the hosts were dismissed for 268.
But despite his instant impact, Tremlett still says there were butterflies in his stomach as he lined up to bowl his first ball.
"It's been a great day for England. I was lucky to get the nod and the wicket seemed to suit my attributes," the towering paceman said.
"There were a few butterflies on the first ball, but I got the first over out of the way, got a wicket and took confidence from there.
"There was no extra pressure from bowling first. We had our plans, didn't try to force wickets and we made the most of the wicket nipping around early on. We toiled away pretty well and we're very happy to bowl them out for what we did."
He added on Sky Sports 1: "I have had to wait a couple of years for my chance and it's great to come back and make a contribution.
"I got told I was playing yesterday afternoon at nets so it was a nervous night's sleep, but I woke up full of confidence and tried to enjoy it and it was a great day for me."
Many felt the pace and bounce the wicket at the WACA traditionally offers played into Tremlett's hands when the selectors were choosing between him, Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad.
"Perth is renowned for its bounce and it helped that I got a chance at Melbourne and took wickets at Hobart, and here conditions were in my favour," Tremlett said.
"I got the first over out of the way and after taking my first wicket I was fine. I am feeling good, I haven't bowled 23 overs in a day for a while but I am feeling fresh and ready to go again in a couple of days."
