India moved into a strong position at stumps on day two of the series opener against West Indies after a fine performance from their bowling attack.
The hosts, on 34-1 overnight, were bowled out for 173 to concede a first-innings deficit of 73 on a rapidly wearing pitch in Jamaica, only opening batsman Adrian Barath with 64 providing much resistance.
Despite the ball turning generously, it was India's seamers who did most of the damage, Praveen Kumar (3-38) and Ishant Sharma (3-29) taking three wickets apiece.
Rahul Dravid hit 45 not out to guide India to 91-3 in their second innings at stumps, an overall advantage of 164.
Burst
West Indies had added just one run to their total in the morning when Ramnaresh Sarwan (3) departed lbw to Sharma.
Barath and Darren Bravo put on 56 before the former became debutant Kumar's maiden Test scalp, edging to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Barath's 64 had come off 122 deliveries and included nine boundaries and one six.
The score was now 91-3 but with just four more runs on the board Bravo (18) became Kumar's second victim, Dhoni again taking the catch.
And Kumar struck again before lunch during a spell of three wickets in 14 deliveries, Brendan Nash edging to Suresh Raina at third slip for one.
Baugh started to speed the scoring along in early afternoon and with Chanderpaul had put on 45 when he was caught at silly point from off-spinner Harbhajan Singh's bowling.
Baugh's 27 came from 35 deliveries with two boundaries and a six but his dismissal was the first of three wickets to be lost for five runs.
Skipper Darren Sammy was bowled by Sharma for one and with only four more runs on the board, Chanderpaul was out to Harbhajan (2-51) for 23 as West Indies wobbled to 152-8.
Leg-spinner Amit Mishra claimed the final two wickets, Fidel Edwards (7) and Devendra Bishoo (4), to finish with 2-51.

Ravi Rampaul (1-17) struck in the second over of India's second innings, pinning Murali Vijay lbw for a duck.
Dravid joined Abhinav Mukund in a 56-run stand before West Indies took two wickets in as many overs.
Mukund (25) was caught behind off leg-spinner Bishoo (1-27) and VVS Laxman offered a return catch to Sammy (1-16) without scoring.
But Virat Kohli (14no) joined Dravid to see the tourists through to the close without further loss.
