The hosts cruised across the finishing line with more than 40 overs to spare after bowling out the Windies for just 70 - with Sammy top-scoring on 16.
The teams meet again on Sunday - at the same venue - and Sammy believes they can restore some pride in ODI number two.
The visiting skipper said: "They came hard at us and we have to come back even harder.
"We have to bounce back and it is just the first game of a five-match series. It is just a one-off game. We will come back on Sunday and look to execute better.
"We know we have the ability and that's what I will tell the boys. Yes, it's going to be hard to wipe what happened off the memory. But we've had great games against them and we'll think about the positives.
"We need to dust ourselves off and believe we can be successful against them."
Aussie Mitchell Starc added: "We spoke about getting enough balls in the right areas on that wicket and I think we did that very well today.
"To bowl them out for 70 was a great result."
