Kent escaped with a warning from an England and Wales Cricket Board pitch panel after their 10-wicket victory over Derbyshire at Canterbury.
After a two-and-a-half hour process of interviews and discussion with the umpires, ground staff and representatives of both teams following the end of the game, Tony Pigott emerged to say the pitch had been marked as "below average".
Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen criticised the dry and dusty surface for wearing too quickly as his side were dismissed for 256 after being made to follow on.
That left the hosts with a target of just 39 for victory and they quickly knocked off those runs for loss of no wickets.
It looked like an innings victory was almost certain when Derbyshire collapsed to 102-7 as Darren Stevens, who would end with figures of 6-64, ripped through their batting order.
However, Alex Hughes (82) and David Wainwright (60 not out) produced an eighth wicket stand of 129 – a record for the county against Kent – to ensure that the visitors went down fighting.
But the eventual total, added to their first innings of 115 in reply to Kent’s 333, was nowhere near enough to make things competitive.
In Bristol, Will Tavare produced a back-to-the-wall innings to secure a draw for Gloucestershire in their clash against Glamorgan.
The visitors declared on 615-7 on the final morning – a lead of 224 – but Tavare occupied the crease for more than three and a half hours as Gloucestershire reached 165-5 before the close.
The opener faced 167 balls in a fighting knock of 41, a batting display that was reminiscent of his uncle Chris, a former Kent, Somerset and England batsman.
Ian Cockbain contributed 25 to a fourth-wicket stand of 44 with Tavare which ticked off 32.1 overs, while Will Gidman's 47 not out ended any hopes of a Glamorgan win.
Glamorgan's bowlers toiled hard on a pitch which had been unresponsive throughout the game, but had to be content with 12 points from the game to their opponents' nine.
The visitors had earlier batted on for just five overs before declaring at the start of the morning session. Ruaidhri Smith was unbeaten on 57 when the innings was waved off.
