Gloucestershire will have to do without club captain Michael Klinger for the rest of the season after it was confirmed he suffered a broken arm against Derbyshire.
The Australian will now return home for surgery to repair a fracture to his left forearm after he was struck by a short ball from Mark Footitt while batting in the Royal London One-Day Cup fixture at Derby.
Klinger was forced to retire hurt with two to his name and was unable to bat again as the Gladiators suffered a 53-run defeat in their final Group A fixture.
Despite the result the Gladiators still qualified for the quarter-finals of the 50-over competition, though their skipper will not be available to lead them in their knockout tie against Kent.
"This injury will require surgery and Michael will return to Australia once this procedure has been carried out. Unfortunately, he will take no further part in our season," the county said on their website.
"Everyone at the club wishes Michael a speedy recovery."
