Summaries from the two County Championship games to reach a conclusion on day four of the latest round of fixtures.
LANCASHIRE (275 & 253) beat GLOUCESTERSHIRE (277 & 160) by 91 runs
A devastating mid-afternoon spell of bowling byKyle Jarvis put paid to Glucestershire's run chase at Bristol and secured a win for Lancashire. Jarvis took four of his 5-39 in a superb spell which saw the hosts crumble from 113-3 to 119-7 and effectively put them on the brink of defeat.
Opener Chris Dent (54) and Michael Klinger (42) got Gloucester off to a good start but five players scored ducks and the chase fell well short, with the match ending around half an hour before tea.
Lancashire scored steadily but unspectacularly throughout both of their innings, in which Gloucestershire's 20-year-old seamer Miles returned superb match figures of 10-121.
ESSEX (276 & 506-9d) drew with NORTHANTS (444 & 115-3)
As expected, Northants' game with Essex has ended with a draw, the only match do so in this round of County Championship matches.
Essex reduced the home side to 56-3 in their second innings to briefly offer hope of securing a victory but an unbeaten 53 from first innings centurion Richard Levi helped ensure that would not come to fruition.
Tom Westley's superb 179 and 124 from Jesse Ryder helped the visitors establish a 3338-run lead at the end of therio second knock. Rory Kleinveldt has toiled for 5-138 but the Wantage Road track has favoured the batsmen and Essex have treated the afternoon of day four as an open batting practice, Ryan ten Doeschate hitting an unbeaten 76.
Essex had the initial momentum, with Ryder's 87 anchoring a respectable 276, but Northants snatched it back with a superb 168 from Levi, which gave them a lead after the first innings.
