LV= County Championship leaders Yorkshire showed their class after bowling out Warwickshire for just 69 on day two of the Division One match at Edgbaston.

A devastating spell from Ryan Sidebottom has put Yorkshire in total control of their clash with Warwickshire after two days at Edgbaston.

The former England left-armer ripped through the Warwickshire top order, exploiting the conditions to take the first six wickets and leave the hosts 35-6.

That then became 37-9 as Jack Brooks (3-14) took over as Warwickshire lost six wickets for two runs in seven overs, with six players failing to score.

Indeed, they needed a last-wicket stand of 32 between Rikki Clarke (28) and Ollie Hannon-Dalby to avoid the follow-on having earlier dismissed their visitors for 213.

Armed with a 144-run lead, Yorkshire then set about firming up their superiority, reaching 125-1 at stumps - Will Rhodes unbeaten on 53 - for a lead of 269.

At New Road, Daryl Mitchell cracked a fine 105no to steer Worcestershire to 228-5 on a rain-affected first day of their game against Hampshire.

Opener Mitchell batted through the day, sharing a 142-run stand with Joe Clarke to dig the hosts out of a hole after they had been reduced to 25-3 by Jackson Bird.

Bird had Richard Oliver trapped in front, induced an edge behind from Tom Fell before bowling Tom Kohler-Cadmore before Mitchell dug in.

Clarke (70) was eventually undone by Danny Briggs, with Brett D'Oliviera the other man to fall shortly before stumps.

At Taunton, James Hildreth and Peter Trego have given Somerset the edge on day two of their Division One clash with Sussex, sharing an unbeaten fifth-wicket stand of 140 to steer their side to 176-4 in reply to the visitors' 208.

Resuming the day on 145-6, Sussex earlier inched past 200 courtesy of a 51 from Luke Wright, but lost their last three wickets for just six runs, with Alfonso Thomas taking 4-46.

Somerset's reply was in trouble when Marcus Trescothick (eight from 33), Tom Abell (16 from 47) and Johann Myburgh (nine from 22) were dismissed cheaply and when Jim Allenby was caught behind to hand Ollie Robinson his second wicket, the hosts were 36-4.

But Hildreth (63no) and Trego (71no) combined in a fluent partnership to frustrate Sussex and edge Somerset towards a first-innings lead.

Half-centuries from Nottinghamshire's Brendan Taylor and Steven Mullaney ensured Middlesex did not assume complete control of the Division One clash at Trent Bridge.

Taylor crafted 77 from 148 balls while Mullaney reached stumps 56no as Notts' closed on 180-4 in reply to Middlesex's 374 all out.

James Franklin has three wickets from his 10 overs and it was he who finally snared Taylor, bowling him at 145-3 before taking a return catch two balls later to remove Riki Wessels.

Middlesex earlier reached their total thanks to a wonderful 182 not out from Dawid Malan.

Malan hit 27 fours in his 270-ball innings and was given excellent support down the order, especially James Harris, who contributed 73 in a 175-run eighth-wicket stand with Malan before he was bowled by Brett Hutton.
