Kyle Coetzer scored his second successive half-century as Scotland beat Oman by 23 runs to secure their place in the World T20 qualifying play-offs.

The Northamptonshire batsman followed up his unbeaten 51 against Canada on Thursday with a 38-ball 63 as Scotland made 173-5 after being sent into bat at Goldenacre, Edinburgh, on Saturday.

Coetzer struck nine fours and a six to help put on 60 for the opening wicket with Calum MacLeod (20).

Preston Mommsen (32 not out), Richie Berrington (26) and Matthew Cross (20) also made useful contributions for the hosts.

Aamir Kaleem made 59 in response for Oman but he was one of three victims for Safyaan Sharif (3-27) as Scotland limited their opponents to 150-7.

The victory lifts Scotland to the top of Group B on eight points and means they are now assured of a top-four place and a berth in the knockout rounds at the very least.

Scotland could yet finish in first place and with it earn automatic qualification for next year's World Twenty20 but must wait for the result of Kenya's match with Holland later on Saturday.
