Leicestershire put themselves in a strong position going into day four against Glamorgan, limiting the Welsh county to 172-8 in their second innings - a lead of just 93.

Aneurin Donald top-scored with 57 for Glamorgan but Ben Raine's 3-48 helped keep the hosts in check and Leicestershire will hope to mop up the tail quickly on Wednesday morning to leave themselves a relatively straightforward chase for victory.

Leicestershire had earlier earned a 79-run first innings lead at Sophia Gardens as they were eventually bowled out for 427 midway through the afternoon session, having begun the day on 297-6.

Wayne White added the eight runs he needed to reach his half-century before lunch but was gone soon after, lbw to Michael Hogan for 58. The lower order, led by Clint McKay (65), stood firm though and added 90 for the final three wickets.

Sussex lead by 322 runs with one wicket remaining in their second innings going into the final day against Essex at Hove.

Essex were bowled out for 320 before lunch, having resumed on 252-7. Ryan ten Doeschate made 51 and Graham Napier 45 but the former's dismissal was the first of three wickets to fall for just 12 runs to end the innings.

Sussex quickly tried to push the game along as they looked to build up a sizeable lead and force a result tomorrow. Ed Joyce (10) was bowled by Napier (5-86) before first innings centurion Chris Nash and Matt Machan put on 97 for the second wicket.

Chris Dent and Liam Norwell both made centuries as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 563 at the end of day three, in reply to Derbyshire's 444, a lead of 119.

Derbyshire will begin their second innings at the start of play tomorrow with the game seemingly destined for a draw.

Norwell was the main aggressor early in the day, hitting 102 from just 126 balls as the visitors' attack toiled at the County Ground before being trapped lbw by Chesney Hughes (3-87).

Dent, who started the day on 61, continued to bat patiently, accumulating 180 before he was bowled by Hughes and, even after the opener departed, Gloucestershire continued to pile on the runs with Hamish Marshall (72) and Kieran Noema-Barnett (58) both making half-centuries.
