Varun Chopra and Ian Bell shared a second-wicket stand of 132 as Warwickshire closed on 205-2 on day three of their County Championship Division One clash with Yorkshire.

Chopra is unbeaten on 101 from 176 balls at Edgbaston, with Jonathan Trott (38no) alongside him after Bears captain Bell was caught off the bowling of Adil Rashid at slip for a watchful 59 from 120 deliveries.

Warwickshire trail by 174 runs having taken the final Yorkshire wicket 25 minutes into Tuesday's play, Chris Woakes (4-87) banishing Ryan Sidebottom to dismiss the visitors for 379.

Sidebottom then limped off the field halfway through his sixth over, with Jack Brooks the other Yorkshire bowler, besides Rashid, to claim a wicket, castling opener Ian Westwood for four.

Wet weather forced an early stumps in Birmingham, while snow and rain prevented any play in Durham's game with Middlesex, denying home opener Mark Stoneman the chance to further press his England claims.

Stoneman was unable to build on his overnight 139 in front of England selector James Whittaker, with play called off at around 4pm by umpires Ian Gould and Graham Lloyd following downpours in the afternoon.

Marcus Trescothick's 127 - the 59th century of his first-class career - and an eighth-wicket stand of 78 between Lewis Gregory (47no) and Craig Overton (44) boosted Somerset's hopes of drawing with Surrey at The Oval.

However, the West Country outfit still trail by 110 heading into the final day after former West Indies seamer Ravi Rampaul (5-85) helped Surrey dismiss their opponents for 353 before bad light ended proceedings.
