Alviro Petersen hit 191 as Lancashire racked up 513 in their first innings against Middlesex on day two of their Specsavers County Championship clash at Lord's.

Petersen, who began the day on 105, shared a sixth-wicket stand of 103 with Liam Livingstone (58 off 58) in just 17 overs before both batsmen were dismissed by seamer Toby Roland-Jones (4-122) and spinner Ollie Rayner (4-120) polished off the Lancashire innings.

Middlesex had shaved their arrears to 367 by stumps, Nick Gubbins (71no) and Stevie Eskinazi (43no) steering the side to 146-1 after England hopeful Sam Robson (21) was caught at slip off Matt Parkinson.

Jake Ball, a contender to replace James Anderson if the England seamer's shoulder injury keeps him out of the first Test against Pakistan, took four timely wickets for Nottinghamshire at Warwickshire.

Ball (4-76) ousted Varun Chopra (2), Andrew Umeed (0) and Ian Bell (10) as the hosts slipped to 28-3 in reply to Notts' nominal 152 all out, but half-centuries for Rikki Clarke (74) - Ball's final scalp of the day - and Tim Ambrose (72) propelled Warwickshire to 283-8, a lead of 131.

Somerset are in complete control of Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl after tons for James Hildreth (152) and Johann Myburgh (110) and a sparkling unbeaten ninth-wicket stand of 82 in 64 balls from Ryan Davies (52no) and Craig Overton (35no) allowed them to declare on 474, a lead of 255.

Hampshire then lost Jimmy Adams for a five-ball duck to close on 18-1 and trail by 237 runs, Tom Alsop (7no) fit to bat despite being cracked on the leg by a Hildreth pull stroke while fielding earlier in the day.

In Division Two, Derbyshire responded strongly to Kent's Sam Northeast-inspired 379 all out, closing on 291-3 following hefty contributions from Chesney Hughes (83), Wayne Madsen (73no) and Hamish Rutherford (65).

Northeast had earlier missed out on a maiden first-class double ton, the Kent skipper caught by Madsen off Hughes's spin for a career-best 191 having trumped his 189 against Gloucestershire from earlier this season.

Leicestershire, meanwhile, grafted to 252-7 at stumps on day one against Gloucestershire at Grace Road, Neil Dexter (107no) compiling a century and skipper Mark Cosgrove notching 54 as Kieran Noema-Barnett claimed three wickets.
