T20 Blast: Yorkshire edge Lancashire in thrilling Roses clash

Yorkshire Vikings secured a thrilling five-run victory over Lancashire with two balls to spare at Headingley in the Natwest T20 Blast.

Chasing 142 in a match reduced to 18 overs-a-side because of rain before the start Lancashire's last wicket pair needed 12 off the final over but after Stephen Parry had leg-glanced Steve Patterson, who finished with 3-23, for four he edged the next ball to wicketkeeper Andy Hodd.

The hosts' 141-7 was made up of four scores in the 20s from Adam Lyth, Kane Williamson, Jack Leaning and Will Rhodes.

Michael Klinger led from the front as Gloucestershire completed a Blast double over arch-rivals Somerset with a seven-wicket victory at Taunton.

The skipper scored a brilliant 101 in a victory target of 168, winning with four balls to spare to go top of the South Group as Ian Cockbain contributed 41 in a second-wicket stand of 107.

Mahela Jayawardene made a scratchy 41 and Peter Trego 32 in the hosts' 167-7 as Matt Taylor returned career-best figures of 3-16.

Sussex's first win in five matches lifted them above opponents Middlesex into third place after a seven-wicket win at Hove.

The visitors slipped from 71-1 in the sixth over to 146 all out after losing nine wickets for 75 in 12 overs.

Sussex reached their target with 10 balls to spare as Ross Taylor (33no) and Matt Machan (41no) saw them home.

Northants Steelbacks cemented their place at the top of the North Group by thrashing Birmingham Bears by eight wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis method at Edgbaston.

In a match reduced to 16 overs per side Birmingham mustered a paltry 86-8 - Ateeq Javid scoring 34 not out - as Richard Gleeson claimed a competition-best 3-12.

Chasing a revised target of 86, the Steelbacks made short work of it, reaching 89-2 with 21 balls to spare thanks to Josh Cobb (39no) and Ben Duckett (24no).

Derbyshire ended a run of three successive defeats with a seven-wicket success over Worcestershire Rapids at New Road.

The home side posted 186 thanks to some late big hitting by wicketkeeper Ben Cox (59no) and Matt Henry (35no).

Derbyshire kept up with the necessary run-rate and when rain stopped play at the end of the 15th over they had reached 130 for three, just ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis total.

On resumption Chesney Hughes (43no) and Wayne Madsen (59no) saw them home with seven balls to spare.

Nottinghamshire's match at home to Durham was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain.
