West Indian seamer Fidel Edwards has signed a new one-year deal with Hampshire.

The 34-year-old has agreed to spend a third season at the Ageas Bowl and will be hoping for better luck next term after a broken ankle ruled him out for the majority of the 2016 campaign.

Edwards played 55 Tests, 50 one-day internationals and 20 Twenty20s for the Windies but has not featured for four years.

"I'm very pleased to return to Hampshire for a third year," he said. "The 2016 season was a real disappointment with the injury - especially after everything went so well for me the year before - so I can't wait for the season to start to get back among the wickets again and try to help the team win."

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White added: "It's pleasing to be able to welcome Fidel back next season. He was desperately unlucky with his injury at the start of the year and it was obviously disappointing to lose him after he performed so well for us in 2015.

"He's worked tirelessly to get back towards full fitness since suffering the injury and we're pleased with the progress he's made so far.

"The variety that he brings to our bowling attack with his injection of pace is a real plus and he's a great character to have in the changing room too - I know he's looking forward to being back and it's a great boost for everyone at the club."
