Rilee Rossouw's swashbuckling 90 off 68 balls helped Hampshire to a four-wicket DLS win over Surrey in their rain-affected Royal London One-Day Cup clash at The Ageas Bowl.

Rossouw's fine knock at the top of the order saw the hosts chase down their 34-over Duckworth-Lewis-Stern adjusted target of 227, despite his dismissal bringing about a late wobble of four wickets falling for 24 runs - Rikki Clarke claiming 4-48 for Surrey.

Earlier, another South African opener played a starring role with the bat, as Dean Elgar struck a run-a-ball 91 for Surrey. But, having been well placed at 127-1 after 22 overs with Elgar and captain Rory Burns (46) going along nicely, the visiting side stumbled to 198-6 at the fall of Elgar's wicket on the stroke of the first rain delay.

Hampshire and England leg-spinner Mason Crane impressed, with the 21-year-old taking 3-45 from eight overs, including Burns, Ollie Pope (4) - both out lbw - and Ben Foakes (4), stumped off a beautiful delivery that drifted into the right-hander and then spun sharply away.

Nasser Hussain and Rob Key debate whether young Hampshire leg-spinner Mason Crane still has a future in Test cricket for England.

With the playing conditions initially revised to 44-overs-a-side once the first bout of rain ceased, Surrey enjoyed a fruitful final seven to their innings, it reaping 64 runs as Scott Borthwick blasted an unbeaten 46 from 37 balls.

The rain returned in the interval, leaving Hampshire a new 227-run target from 34 overs, but they got off to a flying start thanks to Rossouw's superb knock, the big-hitting left-hander smashing 11 fours and two sixes, feeding on anything short or slightly legside in particular.

Rossouw shared in half-century stands with all of his batting partners, Hashim Amla (28), skipper James Vince (14) and young Joe Weatherley (46no), who picked up the mantle with the fall of Rossouw's wicket - bowled by Clarke - in the 22nd over.

A mini wobble followed, with a Brad Taylor duck sandwiched between the cheap wickets of Jimmy Adams (6) and Gareth Berg (4), before Hampshire ultimately got home with seven balls to spare.
