And England opener Joe Root is nominated for the Young Player of the Year along with Ben Stokes, James Vince and Reece Topley.
Worcestershire star Moeen scored more than 2,000 runs in all cricket and took 55 wickets. He was top scored in Division Two with 1,375 runs and his superb performances this summer have earned him a call-up to the England Performance Squad to tour Australia this winter.
Australian fast bowler Hogan was a sensation for Glamorgan in his first season in county cricket. No-one took more than his 103 wickets in all cricket than the Western Australian.
Patel scored more than 1,800 runs in all cricket plus 57 wickets, and he was man-of-the-match in the YB40 final as Nottinghamshire beat Glamorgan.
Onions finished with 87 wickets in all cricket and was the leading wicket-taker in Division One as he propelled Durham to the title. Seventy of his wickets came in the Championship in just 12 matches.
Root established himself in the England team in both Test and ODI formats, and scored more than 1,400 runs in all cricket including 180 against Australia at Lord's in the second Ashes Test.
Stokes - who has already scooped the Cricket Writers Young Player of the Year award - scored more than 1,400 runs in all cricket. He took 72 wickets for Durham and made the breakthrough into England's ODI team before earning selection on the Ashes tour.
Essex fast bowler Topley took 86 wickets in all cricket, his first full season, including 48 in Division Two of the Championship. He took a further 21 in the Friends Life t20 to help Essex to Finals Day.
Hampshire batsman Vince scored nearly 2,000 runs in all cricket, including four hundreds in Division Two. It was the first time he has reached 1,000 runs in the Championship, and he played a key role in helping the Royals to t20 Finals Day and the semi-finals of the YB40.
The winners will be announced a ceremony on Thursday night.
