Yorkshire moved top of the County Championship with a 220-run victory over Middlesex at Scarborough.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid claimed 4-27 and seamer Jack Brooks 3-30 as Middlesex were bowled out for 201 chasing 422 for victory after Yorkshire declared their second innings before play began.

John Simpson, who made 110 in the first innings, again top scored for Middlesex with 61 before he was caught by Kane Williamson in the slips off the bowling of Jack Brooks (3-30).

The visitors took their survival battle into the final session on day four but the tail subsided quickly to hand Yorkshire their fifth win of the season, the final wicket going down with 15.3 overs remaining when Tim Murtagh became Adil Rashid's final victim.

Andrew Gale's men now sit five points ahead of Nottinghamshire and 16 ahead of third-placed Somerset with the leading trio all having four matches remaining.

Trott prospers

In the other top-flight fixture, Jonathan Trott hit an unbeaten 62 as Warwickshire closed day two at Horsham on 163-3 in reply to Sussex's total of 413.
