Batsman declares it a "real honour" to step up as captain

Jim Troughton has been appointed as Warwickshire's new captain. The 31-year-old former England batsman replaces Ian Westwood after the latter stepped down last week. "It is a real honour for me to be asked to take over as Warwickshire captain," he said. "I look forward to continuing the great work started by Ian Westwood. Warwickshire cricket is in my blood and I will be working hard to uphold the great traditions of this club." Troughton made his one-day debut for the Bears in 1999, before making his first class debut two years later. He has scored 6,498 runs in that time at an average of 35.90. He also made six international appearances for England's limited overs side in 2003, but failed to make an impression, scoring a total of just 36 runs. Ashley Giles, the county's director of cricket, added: "We are delighted that Jim has agreed to take on this important position and I have every confidence that his experience and maturity will make the transition a smooth one."
