Somerset seamer Alfonso Thomas took four wickets in four balls on day three of their clash with Sussex at Taunton.

Alfonso Thomas became the first Somerset bowler to take four wickets in four balls in first-class cricket during day two of their LV= County Championship clash with Sussex.

The visitors had reached 33-0 at Taunton in their second innings of the Division One fixture, only for Thomas to spark a dramatic collapse by claiming a hat-trick.

The seamer bowled James Anyon for 18 and then proceeded to dismiss both Rory Hamilton-Brown and Sussex skipper Ed Joyce for ducks, sparking scenes of wild celebration on the field.

Not content with a treble, Thomas made it four victims in as many deliveries when he bowled Matt Machan before he'd troubled the scorers at the start of his next over.

In between Peter Trego dismissed Chris Nash for 12, meaning Sussex had lost five wickets without adding a run.
