Sussex consigned Northamptonshire to an eighth defeat in Division One of the LV= County Championship this season, wrapping up an innings triumph with well over a day to spare at Hove.
Steve Magoffin picked up three more wickets on Tuesday to finish with match figures of 8-40 as Northants were bowled out for 204 in their second innings having managed just 116 first time around.
Resuming in the morning on 80-3 after they were asked to follow-on, the visitors didn't even manage to make it into the afternoon session.
Steven Crook offered some defiance to temporarily halt Sussex's march to victory, hitting his first two balls he faced to the boundary as he helped add 61 for the ninth wicket with Ben Duckett.
However the introduction of spin allowed Sussex to wrap things up before lunch, Duckett well caught at short leg by Chris Nash for 23 before last man David Willey was stumped for seven.
The win, which was secured by the final margin of an innings and 85 runs, moves Ed Joyce's side up to fifth in the table, while it also puts to an end a run of eight Championship games without a victory.
At Headingley, Durham reached 50-1 in reply to Yorkshire's first-innings total of 426 before rain cut short the second day.
The hosts were able to claim maximum batting points thanks to the efforts of last-wicket pair Ryan Sidebottom and Jack Brooks, the duo adding 46 runs before the former was dismissed by leg-spinner Scott Borthwick.
Resuming on 367-7, Yorkshire lost Tim Bresnan without adding a run to their overnight total. Steve Patterson was the other wicket to fall, caught off the bowling of Mark Wood for 17.
Mark Stoneman was the one Durham batsman to be dismissed, Bresnan getting the opener behind for 21. Keaton Jennings was unbeaten on 25 with Borthwick three not out when play was halted midway through the afternoon.
A bee inadvertently helped Somerset's cause as Nick Compton battled to hold former county Middlesex at bay in their crucial match at Uxbridge.
When Tim Murtagh had Alviro Petersen caught behind, Somerset were reeling at 28-3 in reply to Middlesex's 338 - a total built around Dawid Malan's 124.
It was then that the bee lent a hand, stinging Eoin Morgan. While he was off the field for treatment, Paul Stirling took over at first slip and promptly dropped Compton, then on 16, off Neil Dexter.
The miss was to prove costly. Compton dug in as is his wont and an admirably positive James Hildreth gave Somerset some much-needed momentum in a fourth-wicket partnership of 75 in 23 overs.
Hildreth made 53 of the runs off 65 balls with eight fours and by the time he was bowled trying to pull Dexter Compton was entrenched.
Alex Barrow, deputising for Craig Kieswetter who is missing the match because of a family bereavement, gave him excellent support in an unbroken stand of 50 and when bad light ended play Somerset were 153-4 - 185 behind - with Compton unbeaten on 58.
