Andrew Flintoff caught up with former England team-mate Kevin Pietersen ahead of the clash between Surrey and Middlesex

It's 12 years since Freddie Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen combined to help England defeat Australia in one of the great Ashes series, but the two cricketing mavericks still know how to entertain.

KP had a chat with his old team-mate at The Oval before turning out for Surrey in his latest T20 Blast engagement against Middlesex, and it's fair to say the pair covered some lively ground.

Pietersen has carved out a fine career as a Twenty20 gun-for-hire since his distinguished Test career came to an end more than three years ago, but as he told Flintoff nothing can quite compare with the thrill of taking the fight to the opposition during his England days.

Those fond memories did not stop the Pietermaritzburg native flirting with the idea of representing South Africa once his qualification comes through in 2019 - or deter him from criticising the quality of England's current top order.

As for his claim he could still bat for England - left-handed and without pads? Well, let's just hope the selectors weren't watching as our hobbling hero later ran out Surrey team-mate Aaron Finch and then fended a catch tamely into the leg side...
