Records fell on the second day at The Oval as Sam Curran continued to shine against Kent on his Surrey debut.

The 17-year-old left-armer completed a five-wicket haul to help bowl out the visitors for 336 before Surrey reached stumps on 144-1.

Surrey's twitter feed claimed Curran, the county's second-youngest Championship player, was also the youngest from any county to take five wickets in an innings on his first appearance.

But the day did not belong entirely to the teenager as Sam Billings and Calum Haggett set a new record for Kent's seventh wicket against Surrey.

The pair came together with their side in real trouble on 154-6 having lost Darren Stevens and Ben Harmison cheaply on resumption on 132-4.

Billings played the senior role in a 151 stand curtailed by Curran, who trapped the England man in front one short of a second first-class hundred.

Haggett went on to his highest first-class score of 80 before he was last man out, caught off Curran by Kumar Sangakkara, playing his first Championship game since early June.

It was day three at Chelmsford, where Glamorgan face a final-day fight to preserve their unbeaten Championship record having been set 462 to beat Essex.

An opening stand of 237 between Nick Browne (129) and Liam Dawson (99) - Essex's highest for the first wicket against Glamorgan - paved the way for a second-innings total of 344-4 before the visitors closed on 110-1.

Browne completed a sixth first-class hundred by striking spinner Andrew Salter for a straight six, but Dawson fell agonisingly short as he gave leggie Colin Ingram (3-90) a return catch and a third wicket.

Some rapid scoring from Jesse Ryder and Ryan ten Doeschate allowed Essex to declare at tea, but there were few inroads in the final session as Jacques Rudolph (45 no) and Aneurin Donald (42 no) ensured all results remain possible.
