Ian Bell finished day three unbeaten on 130 as Warwickshire closed on 283-6, a lead of 81 over Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

Hampshire resumed on 189-8 but lost Ryan McLaren for 85 having added just one to their total before Rikki Clarke dismissed Fidel Edwards to wrap up the innings, the hosts 202 all out.

Warwickshire were rocking as Edwards dismissed both openers inside the first five overs to leave them 10-2 before Bell and Jonathan Trott set about steadying the ship.

Trott (27) went with the score on 59 and when Tim Ambrose fell for 11, they were 132-5. However, Bell remained and reached his century off 218 balls. Together with Chris Woakes (66), he helped Warwickshire establish a sizeable first innings lead.

Woakes (66) was trapped in front by Edwards (3-80) to end the day's play after a partnership of 151 with Bell and Warwickshire 283/6.

Surrey have given themselves a chance of at least salvaging a draw against Nottinghamshire as they reached 297-5 at stumps having been asked to follow on at Trent Bridge.

Rain meant no play was possible before lunch but Surrey resumed on 14-0 in the afternoon and after the loss of Rory Burns, Arun Harinath and Kumar Sangakkara frustrated the Notts attack as they went about overhauling a first innings deficit of 221.

Both players passed 50 but Sangakkara was unable to convert, falling to Jake Ball for 83. Harinath batted throughout the day though, finishing on 114 not out as Surrey built up a lead of 76 despite losing Steven Davies (0), Jason Roy (37) and Ben Foakes (26) before the close.

Rain halted Durham's progress against Somerset with no play possible at Chester-le-Street on day three.

The hosts are in a commanding position, leading by 300, with six wickets remaining in their second innings and they will hope to force a result on Wednesday, if the weather allows.
