County Championship: Rory Kleinveldt takes 9-65 for Northants against Notts

Sangakkara strikes eighth century in 13 innings; Essex skittled for 76

Rory Kleinveldt claimed a career-best 9-65 as Northamptonshire moved into a commanding position against fellow promotion chasers Nottinghamshire in Specsavers County Championship Division Two.

Kleinveldt ensured Chris Read's side were skittled for 151, before Richard Levi's 115 from 104 balls and a handy 48 from 41 from Kleinveldt propelled Northants to 270 all out and set Notts 314 for victory.

South African Kleinveldt was not done for the day, though, ousting Steven Mullaney and Billy Root as second-placed Notts - 29 points ahead of third-placed Northants in the table - closed on 33-2.

County Championship winners Essex, meanwhile, were shot out for 76 by Hampshire as former South Africa seamer Kyle Abbott bagged 6-20.

Essex progressed to 208-3 following on to lead by 30, Dan Lawrence (78no) and Ravi Bopara (52no) hitting unbeaten half-centuries after Tom Westley was caught and bowled by Liam Dawson for 36.

Elsewhere in Division One, Kumar Sangakkara (119no) struck his eighth hundred in 13 innings as Surrey reached 328-6 against Somerset at The Oval - Mark Stoneman and Ollie Pope adding fifties as the hosts fashioned a lead of 59.

Yorkshire earned a 77-run lead on first innings against already-relegated Warwickshire at Headingley - Adam Lyth top scoring with 62 in the Tykes' 296 all out - before Warks closed on 49-1, Dom Sibley (18) the man to fall.

Durham ate into Sussex's 346 all out, closing on 321-6 to trail by just 25 with Tom Latham (77), Cameron Steel (73) and Graham Clark (73no) each registering half-centuries for the second-bottom side.

Kiran Carlson took his score to 191 and Andrew Salter scored 84 as Glamorgan made 442 against Gloucestershire, Benny Howell (96no) then helping Gloucestershire to 161-1 before rain and bad light.

Plus, a wet outfield caused Derbyshire versus Kent at Chesterfield to be washed out for the second day running
