Andre Adams was in fine form as Nottinghamshire dominated the first day of their Division One match against Lancashire at Aigburth.
The New Zealand veteran, who celebrates his 39th birthday on Thursday, took 4-45 and held a couple of catches as Glen Chapple's men were dismissed for 225 inside 70 overs.
He then watched from the pavilion as Nottinghamshire's top-order batsmen, led by Steven Mullaney's 48 not out, replied with 69-1 by close of play.
Lewis Gregory recorded career-best figures of 6-47 as Somerset remained in control on day two of their match at Northamptonshire.
The seamer, who took the second five-wicket haul of the season, helped the visitors dismiss Northants for 221, giving Somerset a first-innings lead of 154.
Marcus Trescothick did not enforce the follow-on and his decision was hardly supported by his and Nick Compton's dismissals, to David Willey and Muhammad Azharullah respectively, with the score in single figures.
Chris Jones (27no), who took a while to get going, and Colin Ingram steadied the ship and, although the latter fell to James Middlebrook for 37 in the final over of the day, a second-innings position of 72-3 gives Somerset an advantage of 226.
At Chester-le-Street, William Porterfield and Jonathan Trott impressed with a third-wicket stand of 131 as Warwickshire reached 256-5 on the opening day against Durham.
Porterfield scored of 90 and Trott, continuing his comeback from a stress-related illness, hit 76 after the visitors were put in to bat, while John Hastings claimed 3-52 for the home side.
