James Taylor celebrated his Test recall by England with an unbeaten century for Nottinghamshire on the third day of their rain-ruined match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

After the weather permitted only four overs play in the first two days, the match looks set to be a draw with only bonus points to play for.

But Taylor - who was dropped three times and caught off a no ball - took the chance to score his 20th first-class century with an unbeaten 138 from 203 balls.

In doing so, he steered his side to 254-5 before bad light stopped play with 24 overs remaining in the day.

Left arm swing bowler Keith Barker ended the day with 4-52, including the scalp of Alex Hales who, following his first call-up to England's Test squad, departed for just six when he edged Barker to Rikki Clarke at second slip.

After Notts lost their fifth wicket following the lunch break, Chris Read (50 not out) settled in alongside Taylor to add an unbroken 124 from 36 overs before the weather closed in again.

Relegation-threatened Hampshire's hopes of beating champions Yorkshire took a hit after the weather only allowed 46 balls on day three at the Ageas Bowl.

The umpires allowed half an hour on Wednesday, with Tim Bresnan and Alex Lees adding 15 runs to Yorkshire's overnight score, before the light faded in the middle of a Fidel Edwards over. Play was eventually called off just before 2.30pm after heavy rain.

Hampshire are still 303 runs ahead after Liam Dawson scored a first century in two years on day two to give the hosts the maximum batting points, while the visitors lost four wickets in reply in the evening as Adam Lyth, Gary Ballance,
Andrew Gale and Jack Leaning all departed.

The forecast is better for Thursday, which will allow James Vince to push for maximum bowling points and potentially a forced result.

Durham were dismissed for 277 in reply to Worcestershire's 350-7 declared at Chester-le-Street, but it was probably not enough to save the visitors from being relegated from Division One.

Brett D'Oliveira, who had not previously taken more than two wickets in a first-class innings, claimed the last four with his leg-spin to finish with 5-48.

Worcestershire had reached 42 without loss at stumps, with D'Oliveira on 32, nine overs into their second innings - a lead of 115 - and their need to win will force them to risk losing by setting a target.

A draw looks probable following the second day's washout, which would confirm Worcestershire's return to Division Two and render the signing of West Indian paceman Shannon Gabriel for the last two games irrelevant.

This is Durham's final game and they will go into the last day hoping Yorkshire do not subside at the Ageas Bowl. Durham will be safe if Hampshire fail to win.

Worcestershire began the day by adding 127 in 18.4 overs before declaring as soon as they achieved the fourth batting point, Ross Whiteley making 51 off 63 balls and Tom Kohler-Cadmore 89.

Mark Stoneman raced to a 53-ball half-century before Durham slipped from 83 without loss to 88-3, and 73 from Scott Borthwick could not prevent them sliding to 277 all out.

No play was possible on the third day of the relegation battle between Sussex and Somerset at Hove.

Somerset will resume their first innings on Thursday on 114-2 in reply to Sussex's 409 and with both sides still involved in a battle to avoid the drop from Division One, it is likely the final day will see a battle for bonus points.
