Former South Africa and County Championship spin bowler Robin Peterson has announced his retirement from cricket with immediate effect.

Peterson, 37, last featured for South Africa two years ago and played 15 Tests, 79 one-day internationals and 21 Twenty20s over 14 years playing for his nation.

The former Surrey and Derbyshire slow left-armer has been playing for the Knights in South Africa this season but has now decided to call time on his 19-year career, which also saw him play for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

"It is with mixed emotions and fond memories that I would like to announce my retirement from professional cricket," said Peterson when confirming the decision.
