Derbyshire have turned down Chris Taylor's request to be released from his contract.
Derbyshire have turned down batsman Chris Taylor's request to be released from his contract with the club.
Taylor, who has not played in the first XI since June, signed a two-year deal last September after an impressive first season with the county.
However, the 26-year-old former Yorkshire player has come in for criticism recently for slow scoring in a second team game.
Derbyshire chief executive Tom Sears said: "His request to be released from his contract was declined at a special meeting of the general committee.
"Chris asked the club for an extended and improved contract at the end of his first season and we were prepared to do that. We would now like that contract to be honoured.
"Contracts work both ways. We have shown faith in Chris and we expect something back. He has been assured by the chairman and the captain that he is an important part of our plans."
