Jamie Porter led the Essex attack in bowling out Hampshire twice inside three sessions for a three-day win to move to the top of the Specsavers County Championship, at least for 24 hours.
Porter took seven wickets in the match for 45 runs, including career-best first-class figures of 5-24 in the first innings, as Hampshire, following on 245 runs behind, disintegrated for a second time.
Hampshire had started the day 268 runs short of making Essex bat again. They were all out for 115 - having been 15-5 and 34-7 during the second evening - and fared little better when sent straight back in, losing by
an innings with more than four sessions to spare. Essex collected 22 points for their efforts, Hampshire just one.
Only Lewis McManus showed an aptitude for the fight in both innings, following his first-innings 39 with 37. George Bailey weighed in with 32, but the rest dropped like flies. South African Rilee Rossouw bagged a pair - and only faced
three balls all game. Simon Harmer only bowled five overs in the match, yet claimed figures of 3-23.
Kumar Sangakkara frustrated champions Middlesex for the second time in three days at Lord's as his 60th first-class century led the Surrey resistance in this London derby.
The Sri Lankan added an unbeaten 116 to his first-innings 114 as Surrey reached 194 for four second time around - a precarious lead of 96. Middlesex converted their overnight 296-5 to 411 all out, with James Franklin hitting the 22nd first-class hundred of his career, to secure a first-innings lead of 98.
Surrey looked in some trouble when Toby Roland-Jones struck twice in a superb new-ball spell of two for 15 from six overs to leave the visitors wobbling at 16 for two.
But the 39-year-old Sangakkara, who unveiled a portrait of himself at Lord's before the game, then joined Scott Borthwick in a battling third-wicket partnership which was worth 123 by the time Borthwick was leg-before to off-spinner Ollie Rayner for 49.
Roland-Jones rekindled Middlesex hopes of victory by returning for a third spell in the final hour, from the Nursery End, to bowl Dom Sibley for nine with a beauty which left the right-hander to hit his off stump as he pushed forward defensively.
Still, however, Sangakkara remained. His 98th hundred in all senior cricket - a tally which includes 38 in 134 Tests and a further 25 from 404 one-day international appearances - arrived from 174 balls and, by stumps, the former Sri Lanka captain had faced 199 balls, stroking 14 fours. In reaching 108 Sangakkara also passed 20,000 first-class runs.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul was also a centurion as Lancashire attempted to rein in Yorkshire at Old Trafford.
Chanderpaul made 106 of his side's 264-6 by stumps on day three after Jack Brooks had joined Jack Leaning in hitting a century in the visitors' first-innings figure of 448 for eight declared.
Former England batsman Jonathan Trott was among the runs as Warwickshire piled the pressure on Somerset at Taunton.
Trott's 175 helped the visitors to 413 all out before the bowlers took over with Grant Thornton claiming the wickets of James Hildreth and Steven Davies as the hosts were reduced to 94-4 with opener Marcus Trescothick standing firm on 41 not out - surpassing 25,000 first-class runs in the process.
