Kent's outside chances of overhauling Division Two leaders Essex evaporated as they lost to Northamptonshire by 10 wickets on day three of the Specsavers County Championship clash at Beckenham.

Resuming on 15-4 and needing 154 simply to make Northamptonshire bat again, Kent lost skipper Sam Northeast in the first half hour.

Sam Billings (39), who only arrived in Kent at 3am after driving from Manchester overnight having been 12th man for England's Twenty20 International against Pakistan, then added 84 inside 20 overs for the sixth wicket with nightwatchman Hardus Viljoen (63).

Darren Stevens (44) combined with Will Gidman (16) to wipe out the arrears after lunch only for Rob Keogh to take 2-5 from 16 balls as the innings slid away.

Rory Kleinveldt finished as the clear pick of the visiting attack with 5-53 before Northamptonshire knocked off the 31 runs required in 27 balls to secure their third win of the summer with four sessions of the game in hand. Click here for scorecard.

There was a similar scenario in Cardiff, where Gloucestershire completed a 10-wicket win over Glamorgan.

Having made only 220 in their first innings, despite a century from opener Nick Selman, the Welsh side could only muster 12 more in their second innings as David Payne claimed 4-45.
