Middlesex slipped to 64-3 against Glamorgan in the 16.1 overs that were possible at Lord's as rain wreaked havoc with the latest round of Specsavers County Championship fixtures.

England left-hander Dawid Malan was back to captain Middlesex but was dismissed by Michael Hogan for just five, one of two wickets for the Glamorgan seamer, as the visitors enjoyed the better of the little cricket that was played on day one of the Division Two contest.

Hove actually saw the most cricket with 21 overs completed, opener Philip Salt hitting an unbeaten 54 and Luke Wells adding 25 not out as Sussex raced to 86 without loss against Gloucestershire.

Their progress was halted by the rain though and Jason Gillespie's side will hope to build on their bright start when play resumes on day two.

Northamptonshire's clash with Durham and Derbyshire's game at Leicestershire both fell foul of the weather on day one and the sides will try again on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, in Division One, only 15 overs of play were possible across four games as the rain prevented even a single ball being bowled in the games between Lancashire and Surrey at Old Trafford, Somerset and Yorkshire at Taunton and Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire at New Road.

The only action in the top flight took place at the Ageas Bowl as openers Joe Weatherley (22no) and Jimmy Adams (19no) took Hampshire to 41-0 after being put in by defending champions Essex before the rain arrived.
