Northamptonshire completed an impressive 124-run win over Nottinghamshire on the final morning at Wantage Road to take the race for promotion from Division Two of the Specsavers County Championship into the final week.

SCORECARD

The last day was perfectly poised as Notts resumed on 107-3 chasing 314 for a victory which would have confirmed their promotion, but instead they were blown away for just 189 before lunch.

Rory Kleinveldt finished with match figures of 13-98, the best of his career, after removing both overnight batsmen, Cheteshwar Pujara and Jake Libby.

It was Northants' first Championship victory over Notts since 2002 and moves them to within 13 points of their opponents going into the final week of the season, with Worcestershire six clear at the top of the table.

Notts travel to Sussex while Northants visit Leicestershire next week, with Worcestershire at home to Durham.

Nick Selman made a career-best score as Gloucestershire and Glamorgan failed to contrive a finish in their drawn match at Cardiff.

The hosts led by 43 runs going into the final day, but declined to score quickly and set up a chase.

Selman finished unbeaten on 142 as the Welsh side made 353-3 - a lead of 396 - although Gloucestershire wicketkeeper and captain Phil Mustard had resorted to bowling himself long before hands were shaken on a draw.

Selman and Andrew Salter batted throughout the morning session, putting on 185 for the second wicket before Salter was caught at slip off Jack Taylor's off-spin for a career-high 88.

Australia-born 21-year-old Selman went to score his fourth century of the season and shared a rapid 89-run partnership with first-innings centurion Kiran Carlson, who made 53 before falling lbw to the occasional bowling of Chris Dent.

Chris Cooke hit an unbeaten 46 as he and Selman saw Glamorgan through to the close, with both sides already well outside of the promotion picture.

Sussex secured their seventh win of the season with a 132-run victory against Durham at Chester-le-Street.

SCORECARD

Durham were nine wickets down when play was halted just before 2pm but the hosts' hopes of extending their seven-match unbeaten run were dashed as the rain cleared and Graham Onions drove Chris Jordan straight to mid-off.

Jordan deservedly picked up three wickets for Sussex, his two early scalps coming as Durham crumbled to 61-7 before James Weighell put bat to ball in contributing 38 to a stand of 50 with Brydon Carse.

Stuart Whittingham took two in three balls after lunch when he swung one through left-hander Weighell's airy drive to take out the middle stump, then Chris Rushworth played on.

That brought in Onions and he and Carse survived for 20 balls before the rain arrived, but could last just six more after play resumed. Durham were all out for 131 after starting the day five without loss in pursuit of 264.
