After a dramatic conclusion to the first Test, attention turns straight to the series decider, live on Sky Sports from Friday.
England and Sri Lanka looked to be heading towards an inevitable draw at Lord's, after they both posted substantial first-innings totals.
But England lost some quick wickets in the second innings and had Gary Ballance's century to thank for setting the tourists a mammoth 390 to win on the final day.
Sri Lanka dug in and didn't look like reaching their target, but wickets were not forthcoming either as the batting side were on 159-2 approaching tea.
The tourists were reduced to 194-6 with 11 overs remaining after some superb bowling from Jimmy Anderson, who ended with figures of 4-25.
The wickets continued to fall but the overs kept ticking away, and Sri Lanka went into the final over with two wickets left.
Stuart Broad gave the hosts hope as he dismissed Rangana Herath, and he thought he had won the match as Nuwan Pradeep was given out lbw. But the number 11 reviewed the decision and it was reversed after replays showed the ball hit his bat first.
Pradeep then edged the final delivery, but it dropped agonisingly short of Chris Jordan's outstretched arms at slip, and the match ended in a draw.
There are plenty of positives for coach Peter Moores and captain Alistair Cook to take up to Headingley, and they will be hoping to take victory ahead of their series with India later this summer.
