Talented U19 cricketers from 14 different schools across Sri Lanka will play in England this month on the tour of a lifetime.
The young cricketers were invited to participate after their outstanding performances during the 2013 Murali Harmony Cup, opened by Sir Ian Botham during his Charity walk across Sri Lanka for the Foundation of Goodness.
The Foundation of Goodness was formed to reunite villages, empower the local people, teach skills and educate the children in the wake of the Boxing Day tsunami and a 30-year Civil War.
“We’re delighted to support a group of talented young adults and give them the opportunity to experience a cricket tour in the UK,” said a statement on behalf of Beefy’s Charity Foundation.
“After Beefy’s Big Sri Lanka walk for the Foundation of Goodness it was a natural progression to support this once in a lifetime opportunity for this Unity Team. We hope to see them playing in the years to come!”
The Unity Team will play 50-over matches against Emanuel School (11 June), Eton College (12 June) and Oundle College (15 June).
The tour will include an opportunity to visit Lord’s and watch the second day of the Sri Lanka v England Test match following an invitation from the Marylebone Cricket Club, a firm supporter of the Foundation of Goodness.
The squad will then get the chance to play Cage Cricket in Hampshire Cricket’s custom-built sports arena at The Ageas Bowl.
